GLOBALFOUNDRIES Fab 1 in Dresden, Germany, is the company's most advanced 300mm semiconductor manufacturing site with an overall investment of more than US$ 7 billion. Fab

1 employs about 3,000 highly trained engineers and specialists.

 

Fab 1 is one of the most productive and innovative wafer fabs in the world, manufacturing integrated circuits in 45/40nm and 32nm technologies. Preparation efforts for 28nm production are underway. Fab 1 is currently undergoing a significant capacity ramp up to 80,000 wafer starts per month. Upon its completion, the site is supposed to be the largest state-of-the-art wafer fab in Europe with a total cleanroom floor space of 52,000m².

 

With its expertise in semiconductor manufacturing and continuous commitment to research and development, GLOBALFOUNDRIES has helped to establish Saxony as the leading micro- and nanoelectronic cluster in Europe. At present, more than 44,000 people in 1,200 high-tech companies are employed in the greater region.
